A Summer of Garden Paintings

This summer I found myself gravitating towards a new hobby - gardening.  Perhaps it was the long drawn-out winter that we suffered through in the Northeast this year or perhaps it was the challenging year of teaching and searching for full time work.  But as the snow melted and the mud season abated I found I wanted to spend my studio time puttering around outside in the dirt.  After five weeks of intense work and over one-hundred plants it occurred to me that this was what I was most excited about in my life.  And so I searched for a way to bring the studio work in line with my current passion.
The result is a series of five medium-format acrylic paintings about 25 x 30", some etchings, and three large scale paintings at 40 x 51".  I am continuing to think about what these images mean and work out what they need and don't need to contain.  You can view the medium-format pieces in the portfolio at the right titled Secret Garden 2014.  Enjoy!
